Step 1: Add butter to a medium pan with some olive oil. Add the onions and cook on medium low until softened. Add the sugar and continue to cook until a deep caramel color is achieved (About 7 minutes). Step 2: For the sauce, combine all ingredients in a bowl and set aside. Step 3: For the fries, Peel and chop the potatoes and soak them in a salted water bath for about 20 minutes to remove some of the starch. Pat the potatoes as dry as possible, and fry at 325 degrees F for about 3-5 minutes. Take them out and increase the oil heat to 350 degrees F and fry the fries for another 3 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp. Immediately hit them with salt. Step 4: Add the ground beef to a medium high frying pan. Season with garlic powder and onion powder. Add the mustard and mix well. Then add the cheese and mix until the cheese has melted. Turn off heat. Step 5: Slice the loaf in half and lightly toast it. Add some sauce, pickles and the meat mixture. Place half the American cheese on top, followed by the fries and the rest of the American cheese. Place in the oven at 400 degrees F for about 3 minutes or just until the cheese has melted. Take the bread out, add the caramelized onions and the sauce.
